Getting Into Research

Interested in undergraduate research? Come to this workshop to learn about how to get into research and the many research responsibilities available at UC Berkeley and in the Bay Area. This workshop features our very own Cal students who have had great experiences with research through their undergraduate career and professions.

Michelle Chang

Michelle Chang studies public health and integrative biology at UC Berkeley. Michelle has participated in several summer research programs and is a former Ronald E. McNair Scholar. Her interests lie in integrating community, environmental health, and global health. Her career goal is to become a physician and continue doing research within communities.

Ifechukwu Okeke

Ifechukwu (ee-fay-choo-kwoo: please say her name in full) is a junior transfer student majoring in Neurobiology with a deep love for basic science research and equitable healthcare in underserved communities. She is currently a member of the Bautista Lab and a part of the Biology Scholars Program. She co-directs the Underrepresented Researchers of Color. She is dedicated to ensuring students of color and those from underrepresented backgrounds are empowered enough to try out science research, take up space in research environments, contribute to, and decolonize science. She enjoys taking photographs of flowers.

Evelyn Sandoval

Evelyn is a is a first generation Chicana, studying to pursue a career in becoming a physician-scientist (MD/PhD). She is a current UC Berkeley undergrad finishing her last semester as a double major MCB and IB. Evelyn has been involved in many research opportunities including the 2017 Program for Early Researchers (PER) funded by the Biology Scholars Program as well as the NIH funded MHIRT program last summer. Her current involvement in the Klein Lab at UCSF has allowed her to further develop as a researcher where she studies rodent incisors as a model to understand the maintenance and repair of adult tissue organs through stem-cell regeneration in craniofacial and dental compartments. Evelyn is also a current McNair Scholars.
