Suture Workshop

Ever wanted to try surgery? This interactive workshop will go over the basics of suture techniques! Attendees will have the opportunity to try first-hand how to suture with the guidance of two doctors.

Dr. Maximiliano Cuevas, MD

Dr. Maximiliano Cuevas is a physician specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. As the CEO of Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas (CSVS) and President of the Monterey County Medical Society, Dr. Cuevas has had a longstanding connection with the members of the Salinas Valley community, clinic patients, and the UC Berkeley School of Public Health CHAMACOS study staff. During their 17+ year partnership Dr. Cuevas has developed a collaborative and fruitful partnership with the research team at UC Berkeley. As a former youth farmworker Dr. Cuevas is able to relate to the specific and unique health concerns and needs of the community and as a medical practitioner Dr. Cuevas is able to utilize his medical background to help foster connections and partnerships between the community and researchers. CSVS maintains an extensive outreach and education program which helps support CHAMACOS research, provides a connection with the community, and assists with the dissemination of study findings to community members and participants.

Dr. Bob Peng, MD

Dr. Peng is a chairperson of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Clinica de Salud del Valle de Salinas (CSVS). In that role, he oversees the work of providers in all of the CSVS clinics, spanning the spectrum from basic and high risk obstetrical care to cascade testing. He also serves as a clinical professor for the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UC Davis. Dr. Peng completed medical school at St. George’s University, receiving his degree in 2007. He did his residency at Kern Medical Center in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Bakersfield, California. Dr. Peng is board certified and a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is committed to helping his patients make well informed choices about their health care, and takes pride in serving his patients living in the underserved areas. Dr. Peng is an advocate of minimally invasive surgery to reduce postoperative pain and hasten the recovery process. Dr. Peng and his wife reside in Salinas. They have three children, two sons and a daughter. His outside interests include swimming, traveling, and spending time with family.
