Katherine Chan

Katherine was born in a small town in Burma where she lived until the age of 11 when she immigrated to the United States with her family. She attended public schools in San Francisco before completing her BA at UC Berkeley in Public Health with a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. She is passionate about addressing health disparities and inequities due to her family’s experiences overcoming barriers in health and education as immigrants in the U.S. During college, she volunteered as an interpreter for Burmese immigrant women during labor and delivery and was involved in breastfeeding clinical research at UCSF/Kaiser Permanente Undergraduate Research Internship. After graduating from UC Berkeley, she participated in the UCSF School of Medicine Post Baccalaureate Program. Katherine is currently a first year medical student at UCSF, and a member of PRIME.

She is a medical school at UCLA in the Prime-LA and Charles R Drew programs, and is currently receiving her masters in Public Health at UC Berkeley (UCB). Ms. Scott is passionate about working in underserved communities and specifically wants to improve the health of Black women. While an undergraduate at UCB, she was a research assistant in the African American Women’s Heart and Health Study where she learned how chronic stress impacts health. Ms. Scott is co-founder and President of the Minority Medical Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to providing minority medical students with resources vital to their success as future healthcare professionals. Ms. Scott ultimately desires to be an OB/GYN that takes a preventative care approach to reduce health inequities in Black communities.

Santiago Lombo Luque

I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. My family and I moved to Houston when I was 10 and lived there until I went to college outside of Philadelphia called Swarthmore College. There I majored in Spanish Literature and Biology. During my time there I was also a collegiate swimmer. After graduating, I did research at the University of Pennsylvania focusing on the immunology of pancreas cancer. Afterwards, I came to California to work at a non-profit in Bay called Grid Alternatives where I served low-income communities. I then decided to go back to school and now I am a 3rd year med school student at UC Davis. When not in school, I like to climb, listen to books on tape, watch foreign TV series and make up games with my friends.
